Calm Corner for Students
Funded Aug 24, 2024Thank you for your donations. Students are using the new resources during class and during lunch for flexible seating, to unwind, or to spend time getting to know each other. Student were so excited to see the rug, bean bag chair, and that they have more reading options during advisory.
The next steps are for students to use their power in student council to plan community events (movie mania, ornament decorating events, peer mentoring programs) which will incorporate these supplies and materials.
Students look forward to spending time in our classroom throughout the day and feel comfortable and welcome because of these resources. Thank you for giving to our classroom!”

Funded Aug 2, 2023Students have been using the infrared thermometers to collect data and use it to explain and justify what solutions they would implement to lower the risk of negative impacts for members within their communities.
Students were excited to take these tools outside, explore the community around their school, and connect what they were observing to how they have been personally impacted by rising global temperatures.
Students can continue to use these resources to plan and conduct their own
investigations in future units. This will help them demonstrate college readiness by being given the opportunities to conduct research and extend their learning around topics of interest as they relate to human impact on the environment.
Thank you so much for helping me provide important opportunities to explore for my students!”

Funded Jul 12, 2017Thank you so much for supporting our classroom this school year. The resources we have because of your donations have allowed students to take their understanding of complex phenomena and our creativity and apply it to work they were excited to do! The modeling clay was used in a multi-part investigations spanning multiple units of study where students study the impacts of surface processes and the deformation of Earth's crust due to tectonic movement. Students used the modeling clay to demonstrate how deposition of rock layers, folding, faulting can change the positions of sedimentary rock layers which also influence the distribution of fossils. My students were also able to to use the modeling clay when they built 2D and 3D models of the Earth-Moon-Sun System to explain two phenomena students learning in the unit: moon phases, ocean tides, solar and lunar eclipses, evidence of Earth's rotation, evidence of Earth's revolution, the apparent path of the Sun, the Sun's angle of insolation and Earth's Seasons. My students were excited and engaged in this work knowing they had these resources available to them. These resources helped students use creativity and make decisions that helped them make a model they were proud of and could use to demonstrate their learning. The unused materials remaining will be used for next year's class for similar lab investigations, whole-class demonstrations, and student projects. We greatly appreciate your contribution to our classroom!”
