Becoming Engaged and Happy Readers!
Funded Dec 4, 2017Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity! While many people love to read, many others don't! In my classroom, the kids are generally reading below grade level and it is difficult to pull them into books. Because of this, we have very reluctant readers. It has become my mission to have every kid find at least one book that they can fall in love with, because usually one book will turn into two, and a reluctant reader will turn into an avid reader. Because of your donation, I have found high interest books on every reading level, books that will turn kids into lifelong readers.
In my classroom, independent reading time is precious. Many times, kids don't have a space to read quietly in their homes, especially if they are not eager to read. Giving the students a quiet place in the classroom to read is our first step to engage students in a good book. Once they are given a solid amount of time to read and immerse themselves in the books, they are more likely to want to have discussions about these books, and then go home and seek out that perfect spot to read.
Again, thank you all so much for your donation. It goes a long way in our classroom! Thank you for helping me create lifelong readers and learners.”

New Books for new Book Lovers!!!!
Funded Jul 7, 2017Thank you all so much for donating to our classroom project. Because of you kind and generous donation, our classroom has received more than fifty brand new high interest books. These books opened all new doors for my readers.
Reading is a culture that I have worked hard to develop in our classroom. Because many of these students do not come from households that have many books, their exposure in the classroom is all they receive. Through these texts, students are learning how to identify with characters, learn the importance of thinking and analyzing what they are reading, and working on connecting texts to their life or the world around them. They are becoming active readers, and developing a love of reading.
In our classroom, students read every single day. We start the year off reading 20 minutes a day, and by December students are usually reading for about 45 minutes to one hour a day. While they are reading, they are writing on post-its and making connections to make reading real.
With these new books, I have attracted all new students to the love of reading. My lower level readers love The Magic Treehouse series, while I found a reluctant reader who loves the Cirque Du Freak reading series.
Again, thank you so much for your kindness. Because of this, I have started the year off with students begging to read.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Griffin
