The research supporting flexible seating is incredible. The idea behind flexible seating is to provide students with ample amounts of seating choices of which they can pick from. I would love to incorporate flexible seating in my classroom because it will support the independence of my students (A huge task to learn in first grade!) It will allow my students opportunities to be meaningfully engaged and take a new sense of ownership over their learning. Allowing my students to choose a spot that best fits their learning needs will allow my student to focus on the learning. Students all need the chance to learn in a way that best fits their needs. As their teacher, it is my job to provide this in the best way I can. We all know that being stuck in an uncomfortable chair for endless amounts of time is not always the best way to learn and focus. Items such as a sofa, balance balls and wobble chairs will allow my students to dive into their learning while being in a comfortable, engaging location/seat in our classroom. These new seats will make all the difference in helping me create a positive environment for the upcoming school year.
