Many of my students have interrupted schooling and are not literate in their first language, while others speak the language Mam which has no written system. Moreover, there are huge knowledge gap between students. In order to address the varying needs of my students, I will be using learning stations to best differentiate instruction. The class will be divided into 3 groups that will rotate to the different stations: independent math problem practices, teacher led small group, and technology. The Chromebooks in my DonorsChoose.org request are necessary for our classroom to have a technology station where students can use adaptive software to develop their English language skills at their own pace. Meanwhile, I will have the chance to work with my small group and facilitate instruction to introduce, practice, review, or reteach targeted math skills. Using stations not only allows me to meet each individual student where he or she is, but this methodology also develops students' autonomy, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Although our nation is divided on how best to reform our immigration policies, I think one thing we can all agree upon is that every child deserves a quality education and the ability to choose their own futures. By donating to this project, you will not only be giving students the chance to learn English, but you will also be helping students access life changing opportunities. Please help make these children's sacrifices worthwhile.
