Through a series of professional development sessions this year I have gained incredible ideas for how to make my students excited about math. I have the knowledge and the passion, but I need the materials to see it through! I'm certain that my students are going to look forward to math this year when we have a strong game-like situation multiple times a week for countless skills! Students will be using higher-order-thinking-skills to create problems that have specific solutions (1-6), attaching these to the dice, and playing with these over-sized cubes to actually play Yahtzee, with a twist. We can do this with infinite topics. With the Jenga blocks we will have a similar application in that equations and such can be created by students and attached to the blocks, and as students remove choice blocks they will solve the problems. They will also simultaneously be working on strategies for building a tall tower! Both of these games will make a great addition to my other home-made games, making math a subject most students will look forward to each day!
