  • I'm Listening!

    Funded Nov 1, 2024

As students acquire knowledge of a foreign language, specifically Spanish, they need to be able to develop in the domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The more they practice, the more proficient they will become.

Listening influences a persons speech. As a child begins to speak, he/she imitates the sounds they hear. The use of headphones help students listen clearer to native speakers talk. This in turn helps them imitate the speech when it comes time for them to do oral practices. Headphones also avoid distractions and surrounding sounds, improving their focus.

Working in a school where a large percentage of students live in a low income household, headsets are not part of their school supplies list. These headsets are small enough to fit in their backpack or in the pocket of a binder making them portable and very practical. Students enjoyed the different colors to choose from.

Thank you so very much for facilitating language development in our students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Quinonez

  • Game It! Learn It!

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

Thank you so much for providing a full year subscription of Gimkit. This awesome site allows me to create "kits" which are turned into games. Students answer questions to continue competing with other students making reviewing fun and engaging. I love the fact that it creates computer generated names (students don't know who is who). At the end of the game, I can generate a score report where students can see their percentile in a more confidential way. Gimkit continues to create new games allowing for one same "kit" to be reused without getting boring. The platform also identifies the questions a student might have difficulties learning and brings the question up often though with the responses shuffled providing much needed practice. The best part is that their scores increase with each new game! I love seeing the looks on their faces as they "study" with Gimkit. It's a test practice and review with a little twist.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Quinonez

  • World Language at My Fingertips!

    Funded May 6, 2022

Thank you so much for your generosity in providing these magazines, "¿Qué Tal?".

Many of the lessons available in this resource introduce the students to cultures and traditions of students their age from various Spanish speaking countries. Students are able to compare and contrast, and create discussion, on how their own culture various or is similar to these. These resources also allowed for students to develop and expand their vocabulary and knowledge of the Spanish language, with the use of key vocab words that the magazines provide.

Articles within the magazines where spread across weekly lessons. Some allowed for small group work and discussion, while others created full classroom reading and discussion.

Some students where able to see themselves in the students they read about, and enjoyed viewing these similarities in someone from a different part of the world. While others where intrigued by the differences and challenges students face in Latin America.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Quinonez
