My students need the CD players to listen to stories, poetry and songs to improve their listening skills, fluency, comprehension and enrich their multi-sensory experience with books. Student will use a CD player with a book of his/her choice. The benefit of it being portable is that they can also choose where to sit and listen. It also helps a lot with their vocabulary development. This also provides a great opportunity for students to listen to their favorite book over and over to the point where they start reading along. We also need the magnetic letters to make words. Making words is a great strategy to help students promote the development of phonological awareness. Making words is a creative way for students to learn spelling patterns and become good decoders. It is also a great hands-on activity to help struggling readers. Finally, we need the book bins to use as book boxes. During our guided reading students are given the opportunity for independent reading. They each have a box with a few books that are just right for them to read on their own. This will provide the opportunity to reread books that are on their level and two books of their choice. The boxes also help to control the traffic to and from the classroom library. Students practice on developing their reading stamina. By helping us with this project, not only will you be helping us to improve our reading but to develop the love for reading.
