My students often come from troubled homes in which school is not the most important thing going on. In August /September when most American families are flooding the stores in search of everything on their children's lists, my students' families are worried about where they are staying and how they are eating. As students with exceptionalities, a lot of what they do in school is easier for them if they have a fun, creative outlet. In order for them to complete such activities they need appropriate supplies. This project hopes to provide my students with the security that they will have supplies to be creative and that they will not have to share a box of crayons amongst ten students. By funding this project, you will provide my students with class sets of colored pencils and markers that will be used for a variety of artistic adaptations of classroom activities such as creating comic strips, turning linear equations into pictures and making movie posters for books that they have read. Also, spare pencils and folders to make sure students always have something to write with and a quick easy way to organize their papers to take home. Last, a pencil sharpener to stay in the resource room. I personally purchased a pencil sharpener to stay in the room I co-teach in next door and have hand held ones in the resource room that have not worn well. If this project is funded, my students will have a stable sharpener in the resource room preventing them from having to go next door to sharpen their pencil.
