Book Club: Boxcar Children
Funded Aug 31, 2022Thank you so much for your generosity in helping me make this project possible. I love reading to my first graders but giving them their own book as we all read together made our book club so much better.
Students were so excited to hear we had a class set of Boxcar Children as we began reading. It became one of their favorite parts of the day when I told them we'd be reading a chapter. They eagerly raised their hand to have a turn reading and participated in wonderful discussions about the characters and story.
As a culminating project, we had a pajama hot cocoa party and watched the Boxcar Chikdren movie. My students were so engaged in finding details that were the same and some that differed. I appreciate your contribution to help me foster the love of reading through book clubs.”

Funded Jan 23, 2022I am so grateful for your donations toward our class books. We participated in a few research projects that highlight important people in our communities. These books helped students read about these people, take notes, and participate in research.
By exposing students to leaders that have had an impact, it helps me inspire them to become leaders themselves. I used some of these books to model the writing process but also to model the thinking process. I like to read aloud books that will inspire my students to be motivated by people who have made an impact.
Having recent and inspirational books in our classroom helps me expose students to a variety of multicultural literature. Thank you for helping me make that happen.”

Funded Sep 27, 2014Thank you so much for your contribution toward our classroom project, Getting a Clear Picture. Our old projector was outdated and not working properly. It was difficult for the students to see what the teacher modeled on the board or what other students shared. This is so important because students rely on both of these learning experiences daily. It is financially difficult to keep up with updating technology in the classroom so I really appreciate DonorsChoose and your efforts in helping me with this task.”

Find the Evidence
Funded May 2, 2014Thank you so much for your generosity toward our classroom project, Find the Evidence. In the move to Common Core standards, it is important for students to be hands on in their learning experiences. The clipboards, markers, and ink provided in this project have helped the students take a larger part in their learning. They are able to gather on the rug and each have their own work space and board. This truly helps them engage in their own learning and makes them more accountable in completing their work. Thank you for helping me provide these opportunities for them.”

A Clean Space for Everyone
Funded Aug 24, 2014Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom project, A Clean Space for Everyone. This summer I looked at our class rug and knew that I did not want to spend another year with the same rug because it was so dirty. Before going out to buy one, I thought I'd write a project on donors choose. A couple weeks later, a new rug was delivered to our class and my students and I could not be more excited. The students even thought it was a different type of rug since the orange squares looked so different. The smell of the room, and the whole feel was so refreshing. We spend so much time on the rug and I am so grateful for generous donors for helping me create that "clean space for everyone."”

Funded Jun 26, 2014Thank you so much for your contribution to our Morning Journals project. My students are now enjoying the resources. I have been able to continue or morning journal routine where students have a chance to explore writing in different genres as well as have time for free choice writing. They love this time and I love that they have individual, bound journals where they can keep their writing and look back at how much they've grown as writers throughout the year. As you can see in the pictures, they students are very engaged in their learning when they are writing. Two students also have an opportunity to share their writing each day we do morning journal and this is another favorite. Thank you for helping me maintain this teaching practice.”

Printer Problem
Funded Mar 8, 2014Thank you so much for your contribution toward our project, Printer Problem. Our last printer broke unexpectedly and and right before some of our Open House projects. With your help, I was able to quickly replace the printer and have enough ink for our projects. One of our favorite projects is producing their own folktales. Each student wrote their own folktale and we published it on the computer. They were able to have a published book of their own that they were very proud of and that would not have been possible without a classroom printer with sufficient ink.”

Watching Beans Grow
Funded Jan 16, 2014Thank you so much for your donation toward our classroom project, Watching Beans Grow. I loved this new way of looking at this project. In the past we had grown seeds in clear plastic bags. With your help, we were able to plant the seeds in the CD cases instead. This allowed us to observe the seed growing from both sides, water the seeds easily, and most interestingly to label all the seed parts right on the case. It was an interesting and educational experience for my students and I thank you for helping me make this happen.”

Print in Color
Funded Jan 6, 2014Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom project. We were running low on ink and thanks to your donation, we were able to get enough ink to complete our recent pictures. We are currently getting ready for Open House. Being able to print out our project and/or pictures has been priceless. It has been very helpful to print from our own classroom printer whenever we need it. We also published our own books and were able to print out our stories so they could look more professional. Again, thank you for your support.”

Mobile Access
Funded Nov 17, 2013Thank you so much for your contribution toward our classroom project, "Mobile Access." My students have been able to utilize the speaker and keyboard in many ways. Our recent presentations have been made easier and more effective with the use of these presentation tools. On many occasions, students request to use the speaker and microphone when speaking in front of the class. This is a big step for first graders and definitely helps build their confidence and strengthen their communication skills.
I am so grateful for your generosity because it has inspired me to continue my public speaking lessons.”
