When the science teacher on my team teaches Hydrology, I will teach the novel "Flush" in English class. The students love the novel, and as they follow the characters in the novel, they see real-life examples of how water pollution affects them now and how not practicing conservation can affect them in the future. Students will be reinforcing what they are learning in science when they are reading "Flush," and they will be learning the English standards I teach- such as plot elements and characterization and grammar and composition, too. Learning is more meaningful when it applies to students personally and crosses subject lines.
