Increasing Student Engagement During COVID-19 Through Learning Journals
Funded May 14, 2020Thank you so much for your contribution to my students. The learning journals during this past school year were so beneficial for the students in so many ways. It gave students a way for them to express themselves and use their creativity to make learning more engaging. One of the learning journal activities I enjoyed doing most with the students was called "slow journaling". After learning about a topic, students thought of important words and phrases that described that topic and then slowly created artwork using those words and phrases. They then used sharpie and water-colored over their words. The students always seemed to enjoy taking the time write out the words and then using water colors.
They were so excited when they first learned about getting the journals! Although some students were at home and some were in the classroom, they all received the art supplies for them to use at home. The students were so happy to hear that they were able to keep the supplies at their house and were allowed to use the supplies to work in their learning journals at home any time they wanted.
It is my hope that, as a result of these learning journals, that my students will continue to think of new and creative ways in which they can demonstrate their understanding of a concept. I hope they will think of social studies and math when they look at art and will develop a newfound understanding and love for how to connect art in the classroom.”

Bridging the Education Gap One Ozobot at a Time!
Funded Nov 30, 2017I cannot begin to tell you how much of an impact these Ozobots have had in my classroom! Students were so excited when we got them and immediately had an interested in using them. Through the use of Ozobots, students were able to learn about the basics in coding, but also learn about more complex systems such as how to code the Ozobot through the use of other apps.
Coding in my classroom looks different at all stages, but through the use of Ozobots, students were able to create their own paths and then work collaboratively with partners or in small groups to talk about the paths their robots would take.
The use of these small robots helped increase engagement as well as communication and collaboration in my classroom. Thank you for making this dream a reality!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Taylor
