My classroom is a mix of 2nd and 3rd grade students who are passionately curious about the world around them. Our school's mission is to educate for a hopeful sustainable future. We accomplish this by immersing our students in the natural world and local communities and by integrating many different disciplines such as (but not limited to!) history, science, art, language arts, and math into a meaningful curriculum. Students are given the chance to pursue woodworking projects in math and independent study. Many opportunities exist to incorporate lessons learned in math into their woodworking projects including fractions, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, and measurements. Additionally, students are able to tackle problem solving strategies, increase their work ethic, and develop an ethic of excellence through the development and construction of their plans.
