With technology becoming more apparent in today's world, I want to make sure my students are keeping up to date with the times. Many of my students are unable to use technology at home or have never even seen this type of technology. The schools in our community have gone to computer based testing and assignments and as they get older, students are often using their own tablets and cell phones in the classroom. As a facilitator of our school's "Green Team," I am looking to limit the use of paper and pencil activities and to become a more environmentally friendly classroom. I also want to make sure they have a strong start to using the technology that they may be regularly using in the classroom in the future. In my classroom specifically, we will be using these iPads in each of our subject areas, not to replace anything, but to enhance the materials and curriculum we are already using.
I am looking forward to my students using the iPads to create digital newsletters for their families, work on collaborative projects, learn through digital scavenger hunts, go on virtual field trips, learn about the environment, and take control of their own learning goals. We will also use the iPads throughout the day in our centers to reinforce what we have learned throughout the course of the year. Using this technology in our classroom will help keep my students engaged, having fun, and hopefully wanting to keep coming back to class. Teaching in a special needs classroom, I want to appeal to each of my students learning styles and this will help me tremendously.
