The playground at WPP in Vermont has a small plastic play structure and a very overgrown sandbox (see picture); THAT'S IT! The school's outdoor play space is absolutely beautiful and is set on a grassy plain with so much potential. This project is aimed at supporting the expansion of this outdoor play space into a true outdoor classroom that will allow the teacher and their students to spend as much time outside as possible and truly foster a love for the environment and its endless benefits.
The ideas generated for this outdoor classroom will support all areas of our preschoolers' development and learning, including health and wellness, motor skills, imaginative play, literacy, science and math inquiry and discovery, engineering, and sensory integration. Their ideas include a sandbox filled with real tools and loose parts. A stump circle (made with labor and love) will support early literacy activities such as story time with puppets, games, and performances. A shaded area created with a shade sail will make a perfect spot to stay safe on sunny days when the rays are too strong. Underneath will be a long picnic table that will be used for meals, projects, and independent play such as building with blocks and practicing early writing skills.
Many items on this wishlist will live inside, but will come outside often on the garden cart and support the learning and development of all children. Your generous donation to our project will improve our preschool outdoor classroom by building more eco-literate, creative, and healthy preschoolers (and a happier teacher!) Thank you so very much and we are appreciative of any donation to better our learning community!
