When choosing a place to sit down and work do you choose a hard chair at a desk? Or a place that that you find comfortable where you feel you can do your best work? Students need options for a less rigid learning environment to promote healthier learning. Younger learners, especially, have a difficult time sitting in a chair all day long. Being able to move freely, or to seemingly move freely, will allow better quality instruction as well as increased motivation and engagement from my students. Wobble stools and cushions are alternative seating options that allow students the flexibility to move around while they work. Wobble stools gives students the needed height to work at a table but the ability to "wobble while they work" as apposed to rigid, standard seating. The wobble cushions give students the ability to pick a spot in the room, on the floor, that best suits their needs. Studies show that flexible seating increases metabolism, uses up excess energy, and creates better blood flow to the brain. It also offers students the choice to pick a working spot where they can be successful and do their best. Additionally, flexible seating fosters collaboration among our classroom and helps build a sense of community.
