My students are always learning! However, we need a better way to model, read, write, and share so all students are engaged during whole group instruction. With an easel, the possibilities of building a community of learners is endless. We can read and write new exciting stories, share silly poems, build challenging words, and complete complicated math skill as a community of learners. Most of the time, I am teaching in whole group from the carpet with an outdated easel that is not magnetic, dry erase, or mobile. This easel will allow us to write and erase letters, words, sentences, and numbers, use magnetic letters and numbers to build words and model new math skills, participate in shared reading of big books and poems, and move throughout the room to continue learning in all areas of the classroom.
