  • Classroom Supplies

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of our classroom materials requests. Your contributions have made an incredible difference in our students' learning experience and have transformed our classroom into a dynamic, engaging space where every child can thrive.

The supplies you provided—printer paper, markers, and post-its—have been invaluable. The printer paper allows each student to have their own copies of assignments, fostering a sense of ownership over their work. The markers bring creativity to life during artistic projects, while the post-its encourage students to jot down their thoughts during reading, writing, and math, promoting active engagement and critical thinking.

Your support has truly enriched our classroom and provided each student with the tools they need to succeed. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and belief in the power of education. We are deeply grateful for your investment in our students' future.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kwon and Ms. Kang

  • Storyworks Subscription

    Funded Sep 8, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting our classroom and our students.

We have been using our Storyworks Magazine Subscription to help our students access a variety of genres in literature. Every month, they are excited to experience fiction, nonfiction, informational, plays, poems, and more! The students also expressed that having the physical paper copy was helpful when reading at home.

Our students are engaged and look forward to the following month's magazine. We appreciate your help in making this possible for our class.

Once again, we thank you and appreciate you all!”

    Funded Jan 16, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous thoughts and contributions to our classroom project! Our students were so excited to receive new magazines and have physical media in hand as resources for their learning experiences. We will continue to do our absolute best to instill a love of reading into our students as they go into middle school. Once again, we want to thank you for thinking of us and supporting us through a year filled with hurdles and challenges!”

  • Reentering the World of Learning

    Funded Sep 6, 2020

Thank you so much for your support earlier on this school year. It has definitely been a year filled with new challenges and hurdles, but also with opportunities for creativity and ingenuity both inside and outside of the classroom.

Your generosity and best wishes have helped us build a classroom environment that was prepared in so many different ways for the changes brought on by the pandemic. We, in the classroom, will continue to provide a nurturing and exciting learning space for all of our students and will remember the help you gave us in the time of need. Thank you again! We hope the new year brings you joy and continued good health!”

  • Reading the World!

    Funded Jun 12, 2017

My co-teacher and I want to thank you so much for your generous donations for our Unit of Study: Reading the Weather, Reading the World. We were successfully able to form research clubs in our classroom, and provide students with the resources and materials they need. Students and teachers were very excited to see all the new books for the new unit!

One of our goals as teachers is to engage our students in rich conversations. Students were able to read different books on their topics and come together as a research club to share the information they collected. This is significant because all students knew their responsibilities, as well as their roles in the research club.

As educators, we want to give our students the opportunity to take ownership of their learning so that learning can become more meaningful and valuable. With our new resources, we were able to carry out explicit instruction, which includes modeling, guided practice, and independent practice. Creating partnerships within research clubs was also possible because we had two copies of each text.

Choosing the right text is an essential responsibility for teachers. We must consider the diverse students in our classrooms. All students are unique and learn at their own pace and style. Some students may feel comfortable with visuals, while other students may use text structures to help them understand a text. The books we received helped a variety of learners. Giving students choice allowed them to feel more comfortable and successful with the task.

It was great to see how students were eager to start the new unit. After learning from the texts, students were able to make connections to the real world and express their interest in learning more. Some students who were not interested in nonfiction changed their views and engaged in discussions and activities.

Learning from texts included some skills such as reading and learning with intensity (using prior knowledge and making connections between what students already know and the text), teaching others well by understanding the main idea and supporting details, using text structures to help determine the information that is most important, and learning new vocabulary words by looking in and around the word.

After using texts to practice skills and strategies, we were able to come together as a class to complete a whole class research project and break up into research clubs. Students were able to read various types of texts and collect notes on their topics. Students practiced growing ideas about their research topics by using writing. This is when we were able to teach students an important skill- writing about reading.

We are looking forward to other skills and strategies like reading and thinking across two topics (students move on to another research topic), thinking about patterns and relationships, reading on to investigate other questions, utilizing resources to work toward goals, comparing and contrasting two topics, as well as note taking and group discussions.

Once again, we want to thank you for your contributions to our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Kwon and Ms. Kang

These books will be great resources for our non-fiction unit on natural disasters! Our students are visual learners, and need all the support to learn about a topic. They will be able to use these books to conduct research, carry out conversations about issues in the world, and have a clear picture in their minds by using illustrations and other text features that articles don't include. In the past, I have used articles to teach students about natural disasters; however, it was difficult for students to have book club conversations without the most important tool: books! My co-teacher and I hope these books will engage our students to have richer and more meaningful conversations!
