My energetic students will be in 5th grade in the next school year. To help keep students focused and engaged as their classes become more challenging, students will have the opportunity to choose their seating style. As we move into 21st century learning, students are no longer able to sit in rough plastic chairs in silent rows. I am requesting a Read and Relax Book Station, a Storage Bench, three Little Beanbag Seats, five Hop-Along Balls and six Soft Seats. Flexible seating helps keep students focused and comfortable, while also building a comfortable environment for learning. Students will be given choice in their seating, taking ownership of their learning and their environment. Seating like bouncers also keep students with ADHD engaged and focused.
I am requesting help for seating and organization. The storage bench and storage couch will supply alternative seating as well as storage for our nonfiction library of leveled reading books. The bean bag chairs will also give students alternate places to sit in the classroom. I already have a standing station. The round seat pads help students with ADHD focus their mind while their body focuses on balance. The bouncer balls work in the same manner, allowing students to get their fidgets out while working.
Students will have the option to stand at a tall table, sit on the couch, sit on the bench, sit in bean bags, sit on a pad on the floor or in a chair, bouncer balls, sit in a standard chair, or sit on crate-stools. Students will do their silent reading and their independent practice in a choice of seating, creating a comfortable environment that they have ownership over.
