Greetings!
My name is Ms. O and I am an educator, employed with the JCES. We are a rural school, and over 75% of our students eat free or reduced lunch based on income eligibility guidelines set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture. One of the basic issues that many of our students face is having adequate school supplies. What may seem insignificant, can affect a child’s desire to learn within the classroom. Children may be sent to the office for being unprepared or even ridiculed by classmates for not having the supplies needed to complete their lessons. This is why the goal of this project is to start an effort, of providing a backpack of school supplies for each student in grades K-6 within our school district. 260 backpacks have already been purchased by the Kevin Payne Foundation! Now we need your help to fill these backpacks with school supplies. The total cost of this project is $4,005. Through this DonorsChoose project, we can secure $2000 worth of school supplies, which is half of the amount needed, for our elementary students.
Our goal is to ensure each child receives a backpack with grade appropriate supplies. I used the JCES 2017-18 school supply list to compile the items I requested donors, donate towards. If the notebooks, loose leaf paper, pencils, scissors, crayons, etc...can be provided, this will help ensure all students at JCES will start school prepared to write their essays, complete their class assignments, do their homework, and be academically prepared.
This project allows us to get started so that, we can have all backpacks filled and distributed, before school starts in August. Please join me, in making this act of kindness, a reality for our students!
Thank You!
