Reading Is Believing
Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for your kind and generous donation to our classroom! With your donation, I was able to purchase some beginner level reading books. In these types of books, there are usually a few characters, repeating language patterns, many high frequency words and strong pictures to support the text. All of these areas are very important building blocks when learning to read.
In my classroom, we do a lot of whole group reading/learning as well as small group and independent reading time. With these new texts, I am able to pull students and work with them on specific skills they need to become a better reader. Having all these text readily available for my students has been such a big help in them becoming independent readers. My students are able to pick from a variety of fiction and nonfiction text and are excited to read them!
One of the books that has been a student favorite in out new collection was The Chick and the Duckling written by Mirra Ginsburg. In this story, duckling sets off to explore the world, Chick follows duckling copying all that he does until duck goes for a swim.... The kids get a good laugh at the chick trying to swim!
Thank you again for your support in building better readers!”

Reading Is Dreaming with Open Eyes!
Funded Aug 16, 2017Thank you for your generous donation! Because of you, my students now have high interest "just right" leveled books at their finger tips!
My students were SO excited to open and explore these new books. They ask all the time to read them! My students are not only enjoying the books at their level, they enjoying the read aloud I do from the higher level books as well. In first grade, there is a wide variety of reading skills and these leveled books help all of my students find a book right for their current level, feel confident in their ability, and get excited about reading.
One of the children's favorite books is Oh No! written by Bronwen Scarffe and Illustrated by Juli Kent. The kids think its so neat that there is an actual real hole in the book and enjoy reading it over and over again!
Thank you again for your kindness my students and I truly appreciate it!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Nadeau
