These materials will provide a needed sensory diet, within the classroom without the loss of important instructional time. A sensory diet consists of different activities that help students de-escalate and focus on tasks in the classroom. Often there are stimuli in the school environment that we are not aware of but affect our students adversely. A sensory area in the classroom provides the students with a safe place for them to release any tension or anxiety they may be experiencing. Students will be provided with different options to meet their specific sensory needs, such as compression, deep pressure, dim lights, soft materials, quiet spaces, and flexible seating. These items will serve multiple students over many years.
