We've got some great technology at our school--in their STEM class, students have access to computers, iPads, and 3D printers. My students are incredible at using technology to be makers and problem-solvers and deserve an incredible space to develop as 21st-century learners. My students deserve to learn in a space that inspires them and supports their growth as innovators. The STEM Lab at my school may have top-notch technology, but the lab requires some updates to meet the needs of my learners and the new realities of these technologies. Students building and programming robots need cushions to sit on as they build and test designs on the floor. When working on iPads to create 3D-printed designs, students shouldn't be sitting by themselves at desks, but next to one another on ottomans, sharing their designs and their expertise. When students have spent months perfecting a compound machine that solves a design challenge, they deserve to see that invention displayed in the classroom on shelves for all to see. These supplies create an innovative space that is responsive to the needs of my learners and the needs of a 21st century STEM classroom. Donating to this project does not just impact 1 class of students, but impacts all of the 400+ students I serve as the STEM teacher at my school.
