My students need a listening center! They have access to shelves full of books, but most of my students cannot read words and they love when teachers read to them one on one. With a room full of twenty students, reading to children one on one throughout the day can be diffucult! Helping our classroom with the funds for this technology would allow groups of students to listen to stories being read to them in our classroom library. Following along to stories read-aloud greatly improves students' reading as it models fluency, accuracy, and expression at a steady rate. These components are crucial to engaging students in the adventures of texts. Since they will use the listening center independently, they are in control of their learning and that is a powerful lesson to get them ready for kindergarten. This center will have a very important benefit for children learning English who will be able to hear it spoken as they read it.
