One of my all time favorite things about teaching kindergarten is the amazing growth I get to see all year long! Most of my kindergartners come in knowing little to no letters at all in the beginning of the year. I love watching them learn all of their letters and sounds and then sight words! We work very hard in kindergarten, but we also have a lot of fun. I believe having fun is the most important thing when it comes to building lifelong learners. My secret behind teaching sight words is making them fun, of course! I'm looking for new hands on and engaging ways for my students to practice just right words for them. They would love using the pocket chart and magnetic board to build words and make sentences. My students love using magnetic letters to practice their sight words. They have to use what they know about letter formation to find the correct magnet, and reluctant writers love the magnets because it gives their fingers a little break from writing. My students also love matching letters to sounds and putting words together to make sentences. I think they would enjoy using the pocket chart for a variety of literacy activities. I can picture both the magnetic board and pocket chart being an engaging and cooperative center in my classroom all year long!
