This project will allow students more choice, freedom, and comfort during their time in my classroom. Expecting students to sit still in a hard chair, without interactions with peers, is an archaic belief system. We are no longer factories that manufacture assembly-line workers. We need to adapt our classrooms to what skills students will need in today's world and in the future. I imagine my classroom being a place where students can work collaboratively, burn excess energy (i.e. exercise balls), and be more engaged in the curriculum. Student-centered classrooms need to invite collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity; allowing students more choice and freedom in seating is necessary to foster 21st century skills. I believe a flexible seating classroom will benefit students in multiple ways. One need only look at what innovative companies all over are doing in terms of collaborative work areas to see that the world is changing; our classrooms must change, too.
