  • Make The Structures Come To Life In 3D!

    Funded Oct 3, 2013

Thank you so much for your generous donation. The children immediately fell in love with these unique Magna-Tiles. I first introduced these magnetic tiles when we were learning about 3D geometric shapes. One of the activities that we do in class is to create 3D objects with marshmallows and toothpicks. Now that I have these Magna-Tiles, the children can continue to explore 3D objects through out the year.

The children find it very easy to use. They think it is magical how the tiles seems to stick together. The children are excited to be able to build tall and elaborate structures. I am finding more and more girls interested in building, too. When the girls build with the Magna-Tiles, not only do they build amazing structures, but they also create imaginative stories. They would borrow other toys such as people and animals from our wooden blocks area to use in their stories. Now, the boys are doing the same thing, except they like to use the super heroes in their stories!

These unique tiles have stirred up some interest amongst the girls. I am extremely glad that both boys and girls are now building things on a daily basis. This could not have happened without your donation. Thank you again for your support. The children appreciate it, every day!”

  • Keeping Up With Modern Technology

    Funded Dec 31, 2012

Thank you very much for your generous donation. I was so excited to finally receive the Samsun Galaxy Tab 2. I used the tablet as soon as I received it.

My first priority was to record the children's language develop by conducting one-on-one interviews. I conducted the interviews entirely in Cantonese. I asked the children various questions to see if they understood what was being asked. All of the children responded appropriately and many of them used the target language to respond. I shared these recordings with the parents at Parent-Teacher conferences. The parents were very proud of their progress and asked if they could have a copy to share with their families!

I have also used the tablet to enhance my teaching. So far, I have used the tablet to show videos that relate to our curriculum. I have downloaded apps that the students can use to practice their Chinese writing skills, test their listening comprehension skills, and even their reading skills, too. I am excited to see what else I can do with the tablet and the children are excited to use it. Thank you so much!”

  • Let's All See

    Funded Dec 16, 2011

Teaching is not an easy task. Making learning fun and exciting is always a challenge, but making what you are teaching visible to all should not be a challenge.

Having these materials has made teaching much easier. All of the children can see me explain a Math concept by use these manipulatives in action without them dropping all over the place.

I enjoy using these items and so do the children. They have even asked to use it during their free choice time. Thank you for your generosity. The children and I appreciate your kindness.”

  • The Building Blocks to Learning

    Funded Aug 30, 2010

Thank you for your generous donation. I see more children asking to build blocks since we've received the materials. With your donation, I was able to enhance my existing block area with more blocks and add wooden vehicles and community helpers. I have observed children working together to build some very elaborate structures. And what makes me even more happy, is to hear them talking and laughing about what they are making. It is extremely precious!

Like many other schools, we too were affected by the budget crisis. Even though our Parent Association is very active, some things are pushed to the back burners with priority given to staffing and other more important instructional/classroom supplies. Thanks again for your contribution!”

  • The Magic Carpet

    Funded Dec 30, 2008

This is wonderful! Thank you so much for funding my project. The students will be so thrilled to receive a new carpet. I'm excited to have a carpet that has clear boundaries to help the students remember about personal space. We look forward to sending pictures and writing thank you cards to show our appreciation.

    Thanks again!

  • Let's Move It, Move It!

    Funded Dec 30, 2008

This is wonderful! Thank you so much for funding my project. The student will be so thrilled to receive additional physical education equipment. The joey jumps will allow the children to practice catching on their own and allow me to walk around and help individual students.

    Thanks again!

  • Myself & Others

    Funded Jul 2, 2007

Thank you for funding my proposal. This means a great deal to me. I am sure the children will love doing all of the activities with many of these new supplies that you are helping to provide. Although our school has active parent support, it only allows us to purchase the necessities. The children will be excited to use wiggle-eyes, and the special yarn hair, and special people-colored paper instead of always having to use crayons to color in their skin color. Thank you again for supporting the the proposal and the children at Alice Fong Yu Alternative School!

    Best Regards,

    Sabrina ”
