  • Teaching WithTechnology

    Funded Nov 5, 2022

I want to thank you for your contribution to our classroom. The Chromebook that you have donated to our class is useful to my students in so many ways. The most important of these ways is, helping them prepare for state testing. My students will take their state reading and math tests on a Chromebook. Having an extra Chromebook in the classroom that the students can familiarize themselves with, will be very helpful when testing time arrives. The students also love that they can take reading quizzes and play learning games on the Chromebook. As the need for technology in the classroom grows, we are so very thankful that you chose to donate to our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brown

  • Reference Materials and Nonfiction Texts for Emerging Researchers

    Funded Feb 8, 2022

The impact that your donations have made on our classroom is amazing. I was not only able to buy multiple non-fiction titles for my classroom library, but I was also able to buy a new set of student thesauruses. The nonfiction books have given my students the ability to explore more interesting topics and have increased their interest in nonfiction greatly. Having more thesauruses in my room so that the students have a chance to use them on a one to one basis has helped them with developing their reaserch skills. I can not say enough about the improvements I am seeing in my classroom! Thank you so very much for investing in my students and our classroom!”

  • Engaging Students With Great Novels

    Funded Jan 13, 2018

I am so grateful for the novel set that was donated to our classroom. We have just begun reading it and my students already love it!

This week we are learning how to summarize. The students will read a chapter in, "The Bad Beginning" and then write a summary of what they have read. We talk about the sequence of events and plot of the chapter which enables them to write a summary. This book has also been a good example to use when we talk about genres. It is a great example of fiction.

Reading in my classroom is a combination of novel studies, centers and silent reading time. The students always love our novel studies and I try to carry these studies over, to my centers with different activities that incorporate themes from the novel.

I feel like my whole class is really interested in this book. We read several novels throughout the year and it is hard to find one that everyone will be interested in. I believe by the time we finish this novel it will most likely be their favorite book of the year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brown

As a third grade teacher, I have the pleasure of preparing my students for their first state mandated test. While preparing my students to take these tests, I introduce and teach a wide variety of reading skills. Rather than using a basic reading textbook to teach these skills, I have chosen to teach these skills using novels. We read novels such as, "Charlotte's Web", "Shiloh", "Stone Fox", and many other wonderful stories. Through these novels, I introduce reading skills such as, main idea, cause and effect, plot and theme, as well as many others. I feel that these novels keep my students engaged and make their learning experience more entertaining. The novel, "The Bad Beginning " is a wonderful novel that I would love to share with my students. It will not only be a book that they love to read, but it will also be a book that allows me to keep them engaged and entertained while they learn valuable reading skills..
