Integration is difficult in a school with so many different ability levels. Since my class is in another part of the building and we eat at an earlier lunch time, there's a physical distance as well. Students pass in the halls without knowing each other. We want to create really cool buttons that everyone (including our staff) would want to wear. Our students can have fun promoting their Button Day by setting up a table to give away or sell them at cost to ALL students. This would give other students a chance to become familiar with my students and generate more school interaction. Our students can also wear their buttons in the community to create more disability awareness. Our buttons will have great art and be inspirational. In addition, we'll also make some button "school swag" to foster school spirit in our entire building. Having a button maker will accomplish two goals: students will get to know their peers in other classes and the buttons will build more disability awareness in the community.
