Deaf children face unique challenges regarding the acquisition of literacy. Gallaudet University is the only liberal arts college in the world for deaf and hard of hearing children. Battle of the Books is a national competition that Gallaudet sports to promote literacy among Deaf children. By donating to our project with the books March: Book One, Ghost, and Sideways Stories from Wayside School, you would be helping a group of children who may never become fluent readers. Research shows that most deaf children never learn to read above a 4th grade reading level. I hope you will help my students not be part of that statistic. THANK YOU for considering.
