Kindergarten minds can make wiggly behinds! Throughout my few years of teaching, I have noticed that sitting up straight in a plastic chair all day can make many of my students restless and contribute to their lack of focus. I have seen teachers, rant and rave about Flexible seating and feel like it would be very beneficial to my future students. Flexible Seating gives children an option to be in a position that is comfortable to them. This could include sitting on a stability cushion, kneeling comfortably on the floor, or for my wiggly ones... bouncing gently on a ball. Research tells us that today's children learn differently and need to move. Balance balls allow for movement that is not distracting to others. Wobbly Chairs let students move in a safe way and allow those who prefer to do work in that manner find success. By providing Kindergartens with various, flexible seating choices, students will be able to make choices based on their needs and this will cut back on distractions and misbehavior, allowing for students to be more focused on their learning. These materials will help my children to focus, with less fidgeting. Many students have trouble staying in a seat as they are only 5 and 6 years old. I admit, it's hard for me to sit in a chair as well! Anything that we can use to enhance learning, is a must!
