As a first-year bilingual teacher, I became aware that many of my students do not like reading because they do not have either the example at home nor the resources. I would like to offer my students the opportunity to read good books in my class. I chose different sets of books because I want to give my kids diversity in book resources we can all read throughout the year and each student have a hard copy for them to follow along as we read out loud. I also work with ELL students and I chose the same book in Spanish to be able to give these students the opportunity to follow along as we read as a class. I feel that by reading books as a class, students will have the opportunity to increase their reading skills and at the same time get a different outlook and bring some hope into their lives. I chose the book The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane because this book talks about different life experiences and how to overcome all of them. I believe this book will motivate students to keep going forward despite the adversities they may encounter. I also chose the book Holes because it is an adventurous fiction story that discusses hard work, perseverance and most importantly, how your current life situation does not determine your future. We would also be able to compare the book to the movie and be able to visualize many parts of the book. As a campus, we service many students with needs and many of their accommodations are to have a designated spaces with all of their tools to help them be successful, a utility cart will help them achieve this task.
