We are building a maker space to allow Harding students to access cutting edge technologies in both digital manufacturing (such as 3D printing and laser cutting) along with traditional craft techniques and tools. These resources will be available to every student and teacher at Harding, a lot like a library. The Innovation Studio, our version of a maker space, will allow students to create, build, and make across disciplines, integrating their learning with their personal interests. From building solar houses, to laser cutting custom Japanese kanji stencils, or 3D printing earrings and necklaces, these tools and materials will open up a whole new whole of project-based learning to Harding students. How will we use this equipment? We have a MakerBot 3D printer, but we need 3D printing filament so that students can print parts for their catapults, gears for their draw bridges, and mitochondria for their cell models. The card stock, cutting mats, and laser printers are for a book-making project. Our chemistry students make comics or stories about the different types of chemical reactions in order to remember and understand them better. The flash drives are for students to transfer their projects from the design stations to the 3D printers. The cabinets and work benches are for material, tool, and project storage. We are so grateful for your help in making the maker space a reality at Harding High
