  • Some Learn Spanish, Some Learn English

    Funded Jan 31, 2025

I am ever so grateful for your generosity! This money will benefit every student in my classroom. They are all working together to create an equal learning environment. I feel this is a skill that they will carry with them throughout their lives. We need to help each other and support each other in our differences. We need to model to students how that is done, but also give them the opportunity to practice that skill.

Your donations contribute to a better world!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kraska

  • We Can Read Wherever We Go!

    Funded Mar 30, 2022

While we were not able to purchase the item that you had graciously donated to, we were able to purchase a similar item that has made our classroom just as portable. We have purchased a cart to store our classroom chromebooks. Each child has his/her own space to plug in and store their chromebook.

The class was so excited to see a simple better way to store their chromebooks. Many have had trouble keeping their chromebooks charged. This made their independence in being responsible much more attainable. As a teacher, I do not have to worry about checking to see that all of them are plugged in. As a student, they can be responsible and check their own spot and have that ownership in taking care of their things. Also, we can unplug the cart and take it with us if we need to go to another classroom.

We also purchased some marker kits for practicing writing words and letters with fine point markers. We were able to purchase to purchase stackable stools for alternative seating. We now have 3 pocket folders to work on the writing process in three steps.

All of our items have made our classroom a better place!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kraska

  • Playing with my Peers, Learning while we PLAY!

    Funded May 5, 2020

Your donation has been put to use every day. Since COVID-19 hit, we are finding it hard to find activities that the children can do in small groups that is effective for their play and development. This doll house and farm set have contributed to many conversations that help our students learn about each other. The materials are easy to clean and they are durble. They learn positive social skills when they play together. We are very grateful for you sponsorship! You help make our classroom better!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kraska

  • PreK Kids Can Be Anything They Want to Be!

    Funded Apr 4, 2019

Our project became our focus when we found that our 4 year olds rarely get to dress up. We talk about what we want to be when we grow up. We talk about what our parents do. These dress up costumes helped our students dress the part and play the part. There isn't a child in our classroom that hasn't put these outfits on and played a role of a doctor, dentist, Mom, Grandma, or any other role they want to play. The best part is -- THE SMILES!!! They smile the whole time they are playing!

In our world of technology, we see kids having their imaginations all laid out for them through video, movies, and social media. While all of those technologies have their advantages, we see our young children struggling with finding something to do that doesn't involve a screen or a game. We are bringing back the days of having conversations and verbal exchanges that encourage the imagination. Play is so vital to our young children.

The generosity of you, the donor, makes this possible for our students. We have had so many learning moments with the costumes. It is great to have these experiences.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kraska

  • Working among the Foxes!

    Funded Feb 27, 2018

First of all, thank you so much! We are over the moon with excitement over our new classroom rug! As a group of Kindergartners, we spend a lot of our time on the floor. It is tough to sit at tables and sit still all of the time. This rug brings us together every day! One day, we were sitting on the rug while working on our math mats and little erasers (counters). One of the students said, "Isn't it great that we have a bigger rug so we can fit all of our stuff on it?". I was so proud of the fact that they understood that our workspace needs to include everyone.

The new rug arrived one afternoon after all of the students had gone home. I rolled up the old rug, set it aside and laid out the new rug. Anyone remaining in the building at that time heard about the "new rug". The next morning, when the students arrived, as each one came in and saw it, they would run out to the hall to tell the others that our rug was here!! They were so excited! It was fun! We had a very special morning meeting that day! We shared all of the ways that our new rug was going to help us learn! We worked together as a team to take the old rug down to the recycle bin at the school garage.

Our whole day revolves around this space. We have meetings, read in groups, work in small groups, build amazing structures, listen to stories, exercise and now that the weather is warmer, we lay down to rest and cool off from our outdoor time. Each of the children has chosen a special fox or owl as their own but are willing to share their spot with others. As the school year winds down, this rug will be our anchor to remind us that our learning will continue through the very last day. It will experience it's first popcorn party during the last week of school. It provides everyone a safe and comfy place to do just about anything.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kraska

Our first grade is a moving and grooving group. We are learning so many new words and strategies in reading that we need to make our library more accessible. So we are looking to have a mobile unit to provide for this need. The students love to have many books to choose from. Over the years, I have collected many. This will make it easier for them to make choices by interest and by levels if need be. Our classroom has a unique personality. We have been working on strengthening our rigor and perseverance in spending time doing effective learning. We have classroom guidelines that give us many opportunities to engage in learning. We have classroom centers, files, activities and manipulatives to keep us excited about learning. We look for new ways to keep that engagement going. Reading is such a critical skill at grade 1.
