The Gatsby Graphic Novel
Funded Feb 19, 2025Thank you all so much for donating to this project. This will allow a classic novel to be more accessible to all of our students!
We can't wait to get started on this unit and the graphic novel version of The Great Gatsby will provide an excellent support to our struggling readers!”

Back to Basics School Supplies
Funded Dec 14, 2022My co-teacher and I wanted to thank you all for your generous donations to our Back to School Basics project. Many of our students do not have the means to buy their own supplies for school. Other students do not always realize the impact that a simple binder can have on their learning. However, the supplies you provided have helped many of our students.
One of our students, in particular, was having a very difficult time completing and submitting assignments for all of her classes. When we talked about why this might be the case, she mentioned that she would forget to complete her work or not be able to find her handouts. This is when I gave her a bright green binder, which has immensely helped her organization! She no longer asks me for another copy of our handouts and she is much more organized with her other classes as well.
One day, when we handed a new folder out to a student whose own folder was literally falling apart at the seams, the eyes of about ten other students lit up! Something about fresh school supplies, especially during the second half of the school year, gives new energy to our students. Thank you so much for all your help! We truly appreciate it.”
With gratitude,
Ms. McGoldrick

Funded Dec 9, 2021Last Friday, January 7th, boxes of books that you donated arrived at my classroom door. As I opened them up and started unpacking the boxes, my students' eyes started to light up. And these are teenagers! My excitement bubbled over and many of my students asked to look through the books before my co-teacher or I could even set them up on our bookshelf.
One student in particular during 2nd period, Stephanie, grabbed hold of one of the graphic novels and signed it out. By 8th period, she had walked back into our classroom to return it. She had burned through the book and absolutely loved it! She is now on her second book.
It is wonderful to see my students show so much enthusiasm for reading, especially when they are reading more than text messages on their phones! Thank you all so much for helping to provide engaging books for my young students to enjoy!”
With gratitude,
Ms. McGoldrick
Learning Near and Far (At Home and at School)
Funded Dec 2, 2020I have been an English teacher in NYC high schools for the past 16 years. While every school year brings new challenges, the 2020-2021 school year was like no other. Last spring, when schools closed down I was faced with an obstacle I had never experienced before. I did not have the materials to effectively communicate with my students on a daily basis.
I knew I would need to adjust to a new way of teaching and learning. Although I had experimented with online assignments in my teaching before, I would now have to complete all of my instruction and grading online. Your donation to help fund my tablet was key in allowing me to make this shift. With my tablet, I could not only easily plan lessons and communicate with students, but it made grading assignments a lot more accessible and fluid.
Even when our school opened again, and I began teaching in person two days a week, I continued to use my tablet as it had become such an integral device in my teaching. Thank you so much for your generosity to my classroom and practice!”
With gratitude,
Ms. McGoldrick

Funded Dec 1, 2020When I say that my success during this tumultuous school-year relied on your donation, I am not exaggerating. When schools closed down last spring, my co-teacher and I had to rapidly change the way we taught. While other classrooms may haven been more technologically integrated, our classroom stayed true to the pencil and paper format. We very quickly needed to adjust to learning about Google Meets, Google Classroom, Zoom. All classes and all student work would now be done online.
At home, I had one laptop that had already started to fall apart. I would get kicked out of classes and it would take what seemed like ages to load the slides I would need to teach from, or the reading platform I would need to use for class. The resources I had available to me were not working. My school did not have laptops for teachers, as they were in the process of getting any and all available technology to students desperate for materials. I knew I needed help, and your generosity provided the aid I needed.
With the ASUS chromebook you helped fund, I was able to log into classes every day with confidence that my technology would not fail me. I could easily co-plan through Google classroom, slides and docs with my co-teacher. I could effectively conference and communicate with my students when they needed me. Thank you for your help, when I needed it most!”
With gratitude,
Ms. McGoldrick
