I am requesting a collection of DVDs that use song and movement to develop reading skills associated with common, high-frequency sight words. Sight words do not follow the basic phonics principles, thus they can not be "sounded out." Beginning readers need an effective strategy for decoding unknown words, and being familiar with common sight words is an effective method. Music and movement simultaneously use multiple pathways in the brain that help students stay engaged. When children are learning sight words, they should see them, say them, hear them, and experience them at the same time. In our classroom, we would use these DVDs daily, integrating music and movement to help students learn sight words faster and to meet the different learning styles that are found in a regular educational classroom.
