My project is to train my students to be proficient using the TI-84 graphing calculator. To ensure that they are, my plan is to train students, in the art of using the TI-84 using my daily lesson plans. For example, in the first lesson plans students learned to turn the calculator ‘on’ and ‘off’. By the end of class, on that same day, students had learned to simplify numerical expressions using the TI-84 calculator. As the year progress, students will learn to solve linear and quadratic equations, Systems of Equations and Inequalities all using the TI-84 calculators. But more that anything, these calculators will help improve students' performance on the MAP Because our school is a Title I school, our students cannot afford to purchase their own TI-84 graphing calculator. These calculators are important because the State of Mississippi allow students to use them when taking the math part of the MAP (Mississippi Assessment Program). The MAP is important, because to graduate from high school, Mississippi public school students must pass this test. Passing this test shows that they are proficient in the area of math.
