Children that walk into my third grade classroom all have very different and unique needs; yet, my classroom has only desks and chairs. These seating options are not giving my students the tools they need to do their best learning. At the age of eight and nine, my students are used to lying on the floor, sprawling out on a couch, working on their tummies or even standing. Children are not meant to sit each and everyday at a desk. They need opportunities to move, stand, lay on their tummies or sprawl out on a pillow. My students need a flexible learning environment that meets the needs of curious and excited learners. I am requesting Kore Teen Active Chairs (wobble stools) and Anti-Burst Fitness Balls. These materials will allow my third graders the opportunity to choose where they sit and what they sit on to maximize their learning. Studies have shown that students in classrooms with flexible seating, are more excited about school and they are able to learn how to self-regulate their bodies. Students with flexible seating classrooms learn to advocate for their needs! My students will be in charge of their learning. As my learning space evolves, so will my students' independence, focus, thinking and learning. Students in my classroom with special needs will have alternative spaces in my classroom to help them learn best. Each student can tailor his or her learning environment to their needs and wants. These materials will put my third graders in charge of their needs and wants. Allowing my students to have choice of where they sit, what they sit on and where they work, will create problem solvers and productive students!
