Precorders and recorders will be used to teach instrumental note reading and other aspects of music to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at my school. Students have been learning about rhythm and singing during the first quarter. Now they are extremely excited to begin learning an instrument! Giving instruments to students in a low income area is an investment to our rural community. Benefits of learning an instrument is well documented. Academic performance will improve through brain/memory development, creative thinking, problem solving, enhanced listening skills, and concentration. Social skills will improve as students interact and communicate with their peers while they overcome fear, take risks, and work in a team. Not only will students learn discipline and perseverance, they will have a chance to express themselves, have stress release, and develop confidence. It's also a great way to do something else that doesn't involve a screen. Most of all, it will bring joy and happiness to our community as students will be playing their instruments for families and friends at school assemblies!
