Differentiated instruction during small groups for reading is a huge focus in first grade at our school. My teaching partner and I sit down at the beginning of the year and map out the on grade level readers and the lower readers who need a little extra help into two big groups. We also do this each week throughout the year as the students progress or need to be moved to a different group. My teaching partner takes the students who need extra help and I take the on grade level students. We break them into further groups from there. This forms our reading groups for the year. We teach this way because with such differentiation, we see extreme progress made for all students. The students in my on grade level groups have thrived this year by doing research projects and book reports.
By donating to this project, you will be giving students in my class the freedom to look up research for their research projects and also read books on their individual level on these tablets. This will change their outlook on doing these projects because we will have easy access to technology without having to look elsewhere. It is so amazing to watch these kids work on these projects because their brains get so involved in learning new information. This year I had them do an insect research project and when we were finished, they begged me to find another one for them to do! Tablets in our classroom would give us that extra resource to make research at small group a possible thing. I know some first graders who would absolutely love
