Our classroom started off the year without a listening center. Our iPads were out of date, our tape/cd player did not work, and most of our headphones were nonworking. In January I finally got a new cd/tape player. However, the books I had were terrible. Either the tapes are extremely old, or the CDs were all scratched. I was extremely disappointed, as were the kiddos. We were able to use a few of the books and CDs. We then got 5 new iPads for our classroom in February. We were so excited. I put the listening center away and just had the kids use apps for the listening center. Fast forward to this past week, and a few of my kiddos asked to have the CD player back. When I asked why, they said it was because they could actually turn the books pages, and they liked using the books. I was stunned. I thought for sure they would prefer the iPads. However, in order to put the listening center back in our Daily 5 routine, my kiddos need new books and CDs. The ones we have just won't work well and are not books that some of the kids are interested in reading. These books will be used in our Daily 5 routine during centers. Your generous donation toward our listening center will not only bring joy to my kiddos but will also bring much needed books and materials for our classroom helping enrich my students fluency skills and love for books.
