If students have the ability to utilize computers equipped with speech to text features in the special education classroom, they can focus more on the process of creating well written paragraphs without the chore of typing. Students who have disabilities have added obstacles due to their learning disabilities. Many students do not have keyboarding skills. Without the task of keyboarding, students can focus on the basic formula for creating a well written paragraph. With the addition of computers in the special education classroom, students will learn to utilize the READ&WRITE program to assist them in everyday language arts skills across the curriculum. The program is helpful in so many ways. Students are able to record their own voices as they read to track their fluency progress. The program also has capabilities of allowing teachers from homerooms to download articles and reading assignments that they are working on in class. This helps promote continuity, and students can keep up with what is going on in the classroom while they are out of the room receiving specialized services for their disabilities. The application is also equipped with many other features that aid in reading and writing. Having computers in the classroom would allow for students to get the exposure to the program, and have practice using it under supervision, so they could use it independently in any classroom they are in.
