I want my students to learn how to wire a model house in series and in parallel. We need batteries, Christmas lights, buzzers and switches. This project will give students the opportunity to compare what they have learned in the textbook with reality. It will teach students about things that can't be taught in the textbook. For example, students will realize that even when they wire their house exactly like the one in the textbook, it might not work. The majority of students' time will spent troubleshooting and figuring out why the lights didn't come on or why the alarm didn't work. These troubleshooting skills are essential in students' learning; they can only be taught when they are wiring the house themselves.
