  • Headphones for Classroom Learning!

    Funded Jan 22, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous donation of headphones for our students! Having these headphones will greatly enhance students' online learning by allowing them the ability to focus on the task at hand as well as provide a distraction-free learning environment.

These headphones will also make learning more individualized for students to participate in a wider variety of activities in the classroom.”

  • Chromebooks for the Classroom!

    Funded Dec 21, 2018

Your generous donation of Chromebooks has opened up many new learning opportunities for my students!

The majority of my students do not have come from households with internet access and parents cannot afford a device for their children to learn. Being provided with these Chromebooks has given my students the ability to access resources in a manner suited to the unique learning needs that they hadn't been able to in the past.

Through our school-wide reading and math programs, these devices have opened up a whole new world of interactive learning where the students can see and explore concepts from different angles using a variety of representations. In addition, having this technology has helped students access information through a whole new modality. I now have the ability every day to implement the online components of my core reading and math programs with the use of hooking a Chromebook up to my class projector.

In addition, these Chromebooks have provided the opportunity for individual student use as well. Students have also enjoyed using them to gather information on the internet to research topics for their upcoming social studies project on landforms! These devices are portable and easy for students to use Google Chrome too! I am happy to report that they have all acquired their own Google accounts and can easily log in and to use Google Docs as well! While these devices include keyboards, they have also helped build essential keyboarding skills required by students when taking state standardized tests this spring.

We can't thank you enough for this great gift of technology. These Chromebooks have helped strengthen both teaching and learning in my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bowden

  • Rooted In Reading

    Funded Dec 18, 2017

Your generous donation of book sets has opened up many new learning opportunities for my students!

The majority of my students do not have come from households with limited to no exposure to literacy outside of the classroom. This makes every minute school day all the more important. Having these book sets has allowed us to access the Reading Side By Side program.

This research based program helps build comprehension strategies and knowledge in students. Reading books like The Westing Game and Shiloh are high interest texts. The stories capture themes that students can relate to in their own world. As a result, it helps them build a love for reading!

Reading and writing go hand in hand. This program offers multiple opportunities for students to respond to the stories in meaningful ways. This helps them build deeper thinking, comprehension and writing skills for college and career readiness.

We can't thank you enough for this great gift of literacy! ”

Increasing students'achievement in the area of reading is a school wide goal. Teachers and students at Lincoln St School are working towards building reading comprehension with reading chapter books through the approach known as C.I.A. This acronym stands for collect, interpret and apply-the essential components of the approach. Through the C.I.A approach to reading, all students regardless of their level, are exposed to rich, engaging books. This approach simplifies the task of reading longer, more complex texts for all students, whether they are below, at or above grade level. These research based strategies include components such as the teacher read aloud, guided practice, reader's notebook, vocabulary instruction and writing about reading.
