Middle School Basics
Funded Sep 20, 2022Thank you so much for providing us with materials to help our classroom thrive! We have been incorporating more art into our weekly notebook assignments. Thus kids have been going through more pencils than ever before! Take a look at some of my students working on a nonfiction reading project. They're creating a zine to teach other students about social media and its impact on teens.
Because of your donations, I have been able to hand out water bottles to kids who need them, supply bandaids for all of our many paper cuts, and notebooks for kids who aren't able to supply them on their own. Having these basic supplies in the classroom makes everything run smoothly and allows us to focus on teaching and learning instead of tracking down supplies.”

Funded Sep 29, 2022Wow! Thank you so much for your generous gift to our classroom! I can’t stress enough how game changing these audio materials are for my students. I’ve seen big growth in kids ability to stay focused in a text as well as their confidence that they too can complete books with easy since I’ve started incorporating Playaways into my classroom library.”

Funded Dec 1, 2021We were so excited to receive our package of new books this week! I want to tell you about two students in particularly who are already benefiting from this influx of new reading material.
A., a student with special needs who often struggles with reading, was so excited to unpack the box. She had five books set out in front of her by the time I reached her today and was fretting about which one to choose. She was able to choose a book to begin today and put a text "on hold" for next time, setting her up for reading success for the next couple weeks. This is a big deal for a kid like A.
I was blown away by M's reaction to this new batch of books this week. M. is three years behind in terms of reading comprehension and struggles to stay invested in a book for more than a few minutes. She has not finished a book so far this school year, except the novel we read together as a class. She selected "This One Summer" yesterday and spent most of today's lesson reading it under the table! I even caught her reading in the middle of the hallway oblivious to the swirl of middle school chaos around her!”

Funded Jan 26, 2015At long last, a printer to call our very own! I cannot thank you enough for giving to my classroom. Our printer, ink, and paper arrived last week and has already been life changing for us in Room 222. For me, it means having quick access to Internet resources, such as the article about Lexi Youngberg my seventh graders read from Scholastic Scope last week. I can just print it quickly and make photocopies right away, without having to go door to door looking for another teacher with a working printer (and ink!) who is willing to share. It has cut out an extra step and saved me so much time! It means I can quickly print out copies of rubrics and resources for a first year social studies teacher I am mentoring this year, making both of our lives easier!
For my students, it has meant that even if they don't have a working printer at home, they can still type up their work. They know they can email it to me and I can print it out and grade it. In the past, even students who had access to computers at home were force to hand write work because they didn't have access to a working printer. Now my students know they can come to me to print out an assignment for social studies or science. Our classroom has become a great place for kids to print out research for all subject areas, not just ELA.”

Help Us Find Our New Book Crush! - Series Books for Grade 6
Funded Dec 22, 2010I am writing on behalf of both myself and the students of class 607. We were so grateful to receive your generous donation of new and engaging texts. As a middle grade teacher, I often struggle to find enough copies of truly engaging reading material for my students.
When your books arrived, the spirit of my classroom changed. Having several baskets of crisp, never-read books in my library is a powerful motivator for students. I found even my most reluctant readers eager to browse through new titles. I've found that in the last few months, reading volume and comprehension has increased significantly due to the availability of intriguing new texts.
It is my job to turn these students into thoughtful and proficient readers. It is very difficult to achieve this without appropriate reading material. Thanks to your generous gift, my students and I will have plenty of great reading material to discuss in the weeks to come. ”

Funded Dec 15, 2010Thank you so much for supporting our classroom. My students were SO excited to dive into the big boxes of new books that arrived in our classroom last week. I have a group of smart, eager readers this year and it's an honor to work with them each day. Encouraging a love of reading in teens and young adults isn't easy these days. Most kids would rather be texting or gaming than reading. However, with your help, I'm able to make our classroom a book-centric, literature mecca! Sure, new reading material supports reading and critical thinking skills, but it's also a community building tool as well. On behalf of my students, I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my book-loving heart!”

Funded Dec 11, 2009Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom. My students were so excited to see the great big box of new books arrive. Having fresh new titles helps students stay excited and focused on their year-long reading goals. Studies show that an increase in reading volume has a positive impact on reading comprehension, thus boosting standardized test scores. But more importantly, students who love reading in middle school are much more likely to become life-long readers. To me, this is the most important gift I can give as a teacher.
Thank you for taking the time to support this worth and important goal.”

Help 7th Graders Meet Their Reading Goals, Part 2
Funded Dec 15, 2009Thank you so much for supporting my project. My students are smart, eager readers. However, since they read on all different levels and are interested in many different genres, it's difficult to provide appropriate choices for everyone. That's why I was so excited to see the package of hot, new titles arrive. My students were eager to dive into the box, immediately lining up to get their hands on their novel of choice. As a teacher, nothing is more rewarding than knowing you've helped kids become life-long readers. With your help, my students are well on their way to meeting this goal.”

Help 7th Graders Meet Their Reading Goals For The Year!
Funded Oct 13, 2008I cannot thank you enough for your generous contribution to our classroom. I am certain that the brilliant but picky readers will be thrilled to learn that so many hot titles are on their way. I am working hard this year to ensure that all students increase their independent reading levels by three levels or achieve level Z. With your help, my students will be well on their way to meeting that goal. Thank you for your support of public school teachers and students”

Wanted: New, Challenging, and Exciting BOOKS!!
Funded Nov 1, 2007Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. Research shows that independent reading is the number one indicator of success on high stakes ELA testing. Students can't read if they're not interested in what's on offer. As a middle school teacher, I am constantly searching for new material to keep my kids reading. Thank you so much for assisting us”
