  • Reading Rocks

    Funded Apr 27, 2023

What a great way to end the school year! My kids will love the new reading material that I can add to our classroom library. The nonfiction stories I can get from TPT allow my students to practice grade level skills using books they can read.

Your donations help our classroom so much!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parzuchowski

  • Love of Reading!

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

It is always hard to explain how much my students appreciate the supplies that I get from donors. My students have LOVED reading the graphic novels. The first day I unpacked them, students asked if they could take them home overnight. This might not seem like a big thing but for students who struggle to read, wanting to read at home is huge. I did worry that books would get lost but I did send them home and was delighted to hear students talk about the books the next day. Putting books in the hands of students will always be priceless to me.

I used the TPT gift card to get games that review the skills we are learning in the classroom. For example I was able to buy a Uno game where kids have to read the word as they play the game. I was able to get a set with all the different skills, short vows, blends, etc. We also got go fish, who has and other games that have really helped to reinforce skills the students have been learning.

Lastly we have been using the LCD writing tablets to review sounds in a more interactive way. The students also use these during free time.”

  • Love of Reading

    Funded Jun 3, 2021

This has been a crazy year as students are getting back into the classroom full time. Many of my students were virtual last year and so spent so much time on the computer. I was so happy to put books in their hands and get away from screen time. They absolutely loved the book "The Shark Headed Zombie" and would come into class excited to read more. Some students would even come into class talking about what they thought was going to happen next. We enjoyed the book so much I got the next one in the series.

After spending time on fiction text and all the elements of it we moved onto the Time For Kids. Students are so interested in reading about events going on now. We were also able to do many of skills that we cover in our reading series. We work on text features and main idea. It was also great that when we were finished with the magazine students were able to take it home. Many of my student have limited access to reading material at their reading levels so it is great knowing they practice their reading with the Time For Kids article.

I can not truly convey how much your donations brings alive reading and engages students who struggle. Thanks so much for being part of these students educational journey.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parzuchowski

  • Traveling Through Books!

    Funded Sep 4, 2020

Thank you so much for the wonderful donations of reading materials for this school year. I am working with special education students who's parents haven chosen remote for the entire school year. We spend a great deal of time on the screen but using the books and time magazines you have donated has given a much needed break to students. I have been mailing the time magazines home along with the chapter books. It is great when say its time to read our book or our magazine and students are able to read something other than a screen.

We just finished our 2nd chapter book last week. I have students really struggling to be able to read and they have loved feeling like they are "real" readers instead of being stuck reading something that looks like it is meant for younger students. The best moment this year has been when one of my students father told me how he pulled into the driveway and before he was able to get out of the truck his third grader told him "I was able to read two paragraphs from a chapter book today!". That is the gift you have given to my students. He was practically a non-reader when he virtually walked into my room. You have have allowed them to feel like readers. We have learned about current events and many skills through out the chapter books but giving the gift of confidence is priceless.

I wish my pictures were better but I had to make do with the lack of us int he building. Please know how grateful I am for you kindness and donation to my classroom. Stay well.”

  • It Is Raining Books!

    Funded Jun 29, 2019

I am so amazed by all the wonderful supplies my students have received through the thoughtfulness of your donation.

I have used the Time magazines to send home with students for homework and we discuss the article the next day. They all groaned on the first day I gave it out for homework but the next day they came in excited and had a wonderful discussion. You can tell they are really thinking about the stories and enjoying sharing their thoughts on the subject. They are then able to keep the magazines and have something to read at home. I wish you were able to see how engaged they are in an activity they use to dread. It make my heart so happy to see them find enjoyment in reading. In one of the pictures you can see them getting ready for a discussion on the carpet.

I have also been able to use the picture books in the beginning of the year to teach some difficult skills in the classroom. By engaging students in high interest stories with amazing illustrations we are able to talk about hard concepts such as cause and effect. There are also some books that we read for the pure enjoyment reading.

The chapters books have been met with such enthusiasm! My kids were so excited to be able to read more about the characters we read last year. We just started reading our first chapter book of the School year after we voted and they voted "A Thief at the National Zoo". I wish I could video the amazing discussions students are having. I am so lucky to have your donations to provide students with such great literature.

I can not put in words how grateful I am for your donation. My students are very lucky to have people who realize the importance of great literature in a classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parzuchowski

  • Love of Reading!

    Funded Apr 24, 2017

I cannot even begin to let you know how much the books we have received have impacted our classroom. When the package arrived in the spring the students were so excited to help open up the boxes and see what books they would be reading. It was with great excitement that I read the back of the books to tease them with what each book was about. They all then got to choose their top two books they wanted to read and they all ended up being able to read their top choice in small groups.

The group that struggles the most with reading was thrilled to be able to read the next book in the series they had read earlier in the year. As we read the book they continued to make great connections between our new book and the other book we had. Many of the students really got into the series and talked about going to the library to find some to read over the summer.

When budgets are tight it is often hard to get stuff to enhance the learning of our students. The district is able to provide the minimum needed which does not always meet the needs of the diverse population I work with. It makes me so happy that the books you provided have made students so excited to read. I have heard them talking about them at all different times of the day. Thank you so much for helping me share a love of reading that I hope will continue for their lifetime.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Parzuchowski

These books would add so much our classroom since many of my students have not yet found the joy of reading so I am always working on providing them with text to match their interest. Many books at my students reading levels are too simple to challenge their thinking and provide rich vocabulary. They also need books that provide good book discussions in their small reading groups. My students have creative minds that need to be challenged despite their difficulty in decoding grade level text. I found some great books that provide students the ability to be challenged and they rise to the occasion. My students will be able to work on grade level standards with quality .
