This semester we have been exploring San Diego through various lenses. We have visited various natural environments around the city and examined them using photography, geotagging, scientific measurement, historical study, and written reflection. The students' final products will include a "triptych", a 3 section photo that will highlight their experience. In the final stage of our project, the students will plan a camping trip to Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. They will explore at their own pace, taking photos and scientific measurements. The photos from their trip will be printed and mounted for display in their final project. The photos will highlight the best of their new photography skills. They are asked to juxtapose three photos to show their environment as a whole, a close up look, and a self-reflective view. The photos will be printed on an eleven by seventeen format for the final exhibition on a large format photo quality printer that we have on campus. The funds from this campaign will allow us to purchase higher quality paper and ink so that the students' final products will last longer. The project as a whole, encourages the students to look at their environment and their place in it. It asks them to wander and see the details they might normally miss.
