Flying Through Books!
Funded Jan 17, 2018Over the course of the past four years, I have been working to expand my classroom library. I have a large amount of interest from students ranging in grades 8-12th. Whenever I receive or purchase new books for my library - it is like Christmas morning for them, especially my regulars, who know exactly what I have. We appreciate the kindness that you have shown by contributing to our classroom library - I wish that I could bottle up the excitement to share with you all! Thank you again for your generous donation!”

Be a Reader: Become a Leader
Funded Apr 15, 2017Since I have began teaching, I have enjoyed sharing my love of reading with my students. It really began when I had the opportunity to teach 7th and 8th grade Enrichment. As a science teacher, I didn't feel prepared to teach an Enrichment class that focused on reading; however, that changed as I got further into the semester. I discovered that the students needed an environment that supported books and encouraged reading for them to really enjoy the act of reading. Throughout the semester, we discussed, shared, and compared books and authors. It was such an enjoyable experience for me and the students. After this class, I decided I wanted to create a space in my room that was devoted to books and reading.
If we are friends on Facebook, you may have read my post regarding the new books and the reactions of my 8th grade students. When my new books were brought in, my 8th (now 9th graders) rushed over to my library and began watching me unpack and asking if they could smell my books (true book lovers). Several of the brand new books were checked out in that very instance.
I do not have set times for students to read during my class; however, I do encourage it when there is extra time. The students who are often more excited about reading and receiving new books are my 9th grade and 11th grade students, and mostly the females.
I thank you so much for your contribution towards my classroom library. In a short amount of time, the new books have already been checked out and read by many students. The titles that I was able to buy encouraged students who had not previously checked out books from me to check one out and read.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Brown
