Many classrooms use fluorescent lighting for their low cost and brightness. However, the lights are too bright, and many students and adults have a difficult time concentrating. Students have different learning styles, and some students are especially affected by the subtle light flickering, as well as the audible hum produced by fluorescent lights. Light covers can make the room more inviting, while reducing many of the harmful physical and emotional side effects caused by fluorescent lights, so that student needs may be met as they explore and engage in learning, while interacting with their peers, their school community, and their world.
