  • Our Class is a Family

    Funded Sep 4, 2024

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom project. I am so surprised that the Our Classroom is a Family project was funded so quickly. I’m so excited to see the rug and library bench in place and my students utilizing them.

    Thank you.

    You are so appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Huffman

  • Learning on the Floor

    Funded May 31, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my students. When I began the request for Learning on the Floor, I had applied to an elementary school in West Virginia. During my interview, I was able to visit the classroom. The first thing that I noticed was that there wasn't a large carpet on the floor for the students to participate in whole group instruction, discussion, or partner activities. A co-teacher told me about Donor's Choose and explained that she had gotten a similar carpet for her classroom.

School started for my first graders on Friday, August 17. At the time, I had done my best to make the room inviting by adding colorful curtains, table cloths, and yoga balls. However, the room looked empty without a carpet. Your donation arrived the following week. The students were so excited! At first, we practiced how to sit on the carpet correctly and then I added name tags for specific learning squares during whole group instruction. The students love to pick their own spaces during small group and partner activities.

The Learning carpet has become a focal point in our classroom. Thank you for enabling my students the ability to have their own space and be able to be enjoy working with others.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Huffman

My second grade classroom consists of twenty seven and eight year old students. The students enjoy being engaged in partner and small group activities. A big part of our day is spent completing student created activities. The students participate in Daily 5 Reading Workstations and Daily 3 Math Workstations while I am working with students independently or in small groups. We have a very active classroom. The students sit on yoga balls at the guided reading table and wobbly stools at the writing table. Our whole group time is limited, but we spend a great deal of that time on the carpet before partner and independent time. Students also use the carpet when they are reading independently or with partners.
