  • With One Board...We Can...Read, Write, and Think Together

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

It's better to say thank you a little late than not at all. Your generous donation is making a huge difference in my classroom. The dry erase board that was purchased through your donation has multi-purposes to it. The whiteboard is an ideal location for a calendar that I use to make students aware of upcoming and important dates. Additionally, the board is used as a workspace for students to brainstorm and write their thoughts. Finally, the board is also used as a space to include the important vocabulary and terms for the day.

I can't imagine not having the whiteboard in my class. It is so useful and versatile. Thank you again for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diaz

  • Google and Google Translate...Priceless!

    Funded Jan 27, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation! As you can see by the photos my students enjoy using the Google Chromebook. My students use the Chromebook to search for images. My students also use the chrome book to print assignments.

Most importantly, however, my students use the Chromebook to collaborate with their peers which is a skill they need as the move on to college and beyond.

Thank you for your efforts in bringing more technology into the classroom. One day, I hope every school across the country and throughout NYC can be a 1 to 1 School because of the tremendous benefits of working and collaborating with others through technology.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diaz

  • Interactive Whiteboard System to Make Learning Engaging!

    Funded Dec 3, 2015

I teach ESL students and modeling how to write sentences or complete an assignment is a powerful strategy. I can now effectively model because of the technology you provided to my class. Having an interactive whiteboard allows my students or any students to emulate anything and everything a teacher models with remarkable accuracy.

Thank you for your donation. It made a huge difference this year and my students gained the necessary skills and knowledge to pass a mandatory regents exam that they need to graduate.

My students and I are grateful for your kind gesture.”

  • Google Chrome Laptop Needed for Research and Collaboration

    Funded Dec 22, 2015

The laptop you've provided for my class has been a boon to my students' learning. For those unable to access the Internet or a computer at home, they've been able to use the Chromebook for checking their grades, looking up information, printing, and other important tasks. They've also used it to access the Castle Learning program, an online database that provides access to New York Regents questions, which helps them get additional information and experience necessary to pass the U.S. History Regents. Passing this Regents exam is critical because it is necessary to graduate on time.

The students enjoy using the Chromebook because of its reliability. It's easy to use, quiet, fast, and everything's saved on the Cloud. They know that when they need it, they can continue working on their assignments elsewhere without worrying about having to return to the same computer or only being able to work from school. No longer do they have to spend their money or time on buying expensive flash drives.

Thank you so much for completely funding this laptop. It means so much to me and it's been extremely useful for my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diaz

  • "He Named Me Malala" Private Movie Screening

    Funded Sep 29, 2015

There was a positive buzz in the hallways and throughout the building at Long Island City High School leading up to our trip to see the film, "He Named me Malala." Students from the Global Language Academy were selected to attend the trip. For many students in our academy it was their first trip as high school students. October 30th, the day of the trip was a sunny but cool day. Students walked eagerly to the theater located a little less than a mile from the building.

The film brought to light for the first time for students the struggles faced by young girls around the world in obtaining an education and educational opportunities. The film showed my students that Malala, although a Nobel Peace Prize recipient is very much like them in many ways.

A highlight for me as an educator, was when a student approached me in the hallway the following week and thanked me for the opportunity of seeing the film and allowing his classmates to see that his religion is a peaceful belief system and not evil as it is portrayed in the media.

Almost a month later, my students are still discussing the film and all they learned from it.”

  • Essential Back to School Supplies Needed

    Funded Sep 2, 2015

You started my school year with a bang! Thank you so much for your extremely generous donation. You provided me with essential tools that are needed in the classroom. My students use the staplers on a daily basis. The backing paper is used all throughout my classroom to get my students' atttention.

The five shelf closet is so helpful in keeping me even more organized. The cart allows me to travel from classroom to classroom without wasting time or misplacing paperwork or supplies. The supplies that your company made available to my students are priceless tools that help teachers be better teachers.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diaz

  • Help My ESL Students Graduate!

    Funded May 7, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donation and kind words. It means so much for teachers when individuals help us with obtaining resources that are needed in the classroom.

Because of you, my students will be able to print in the classroom when needed. A digital clock will allow my students to pace themselves as they prepare for state test that are rigours and timed.

My students thank you for caring enough to share your resources with us. Your donation has motivated my students to pay it forward.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diaz

  • Necessary School Supplies Needed for ESL Students

    Funded Dec 31, 2014

Thank you so much for your generous donation! I am so happy that my classroom will have the necessary supplies that will help my students learn the skills and language that are necessary for success on their NY State Exams and high school graduation.

Basic supplies such as pens, dry erase markers, permanent markers, post it notes and index cards are supplies that are necessary in every classroom. Thank you for giving us access to the above supplies that will be used every day once the school year starts next week.

The NY Times Upfront Magazine subscription is especially appreciated because my students truly enjoy reading it and learn so much from it!

Endless gratitude. Thank you so much!”

  • Help Enrich Our Classroom with The Diary of Anne Frank!

    Funded May 28, 2014

My students were amazed and appreciative of the fact that individuals from around the country donated money to purchase a class set of "The Diary of Anne Frank. My students said that having a book available as opposed to excerpts helps them truly learn and understand what Anne Frank experienced during her last years on our planet.

My current students will read the "Diary of Anne Frank" during the spring semester when we will learn extensively about the Holocaust.

My students have always sensed a strong connection to Anne Frank because they are so close in age. Reading the Diary of Anne Frank impacts them tremendously and it inflames a desire to learn more.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diaz

  • Help Us Get A Google Chromebook For Our Class!

    Funded Mar 9, 2014

My students feel extremely fortunate to be able to have access to a computer any time during the school day. For many of my students, who either live in shelters or in homes where there is no Internet access, it is a relief to be able to check their email, complete research, check their grades through our online gradebook or just enjoy exploring something they are interested in. Students especially enjoy using the laptop during their lunch period.

Thank you for believing that having a computer and having access to the Internet is a student right.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Diaz
